Lithium vs Gel Battery for Solar
Lithium and gel batteries can both be used in solar systems, but they have different characteristics. The appropriate choice depends on the inverter, required backup duration, cycling pattern, available budget and installation conditions.
EliteVolt Systems can help with system assessment, equipment selection, installation and commissioning in Ghana.
What to consider
- Usable kWh and recommended depth of discharge.
- Expected cycle pattern and warranty conditions.
- Supported battery voltage, charge profile and BMS communication.
- Installation conditions, protection and local service options.
Compare usable energy and system fit
Compare batteries using usable energy rather than amp-hours alone. Convert nominal storage to kWh (volts × amp-hours ÷ 1,000), then account for the usable discharge range recommended by the manufacturer. A deeper usable share may reduce the nominal capacity needed, but it must stay within the battery's operating guidance.
Also check the inverter's supported chemistry, charge voltage, continuous and peak current, communication requirements and warranty conditions. For a bank with multiple batteries, confirm that the series/parallel arrangement and cable protection are approved for the exact model.
Get a system assessment
A site assessment and load analysis can produce a more reliable system design than using a generic panel or inverter count. Contact EliteVolt Systems for a project-specific assessment.
